No Throttle Response (brake light switch)
1. RELEVANT MODELS:
All 2005 thru 2008 Conventional Models (with Allison Transmission)
2. COMPLAINT:
No throttle response.
3. CAUSE/CONDITION:
The ECM receives a brake light signal, which deactivates the accelerator
pedal.
This feature is to keep from stall testing the transmission torque convertor.
Several possibilities may cause this unwanted condition.
a) Defective stop lamp switch or switch out of adjustment. (at pedal)
b) Brake pedal not fully releasing.
c) Defective brake switch or wiring.
(at R14 valve – 2007 and 2008 air brake chassis)
4. CORRECTION:
Monitor brake switch and stop lamp switch status with Hino Diagnostic
Explorer. Verify that the switch status changes when applying and
releasing the brake pedal.

Verify operation of stop lamp
switch.
Check adjustment of stop lamp
switch.
ADJUSTING THE STOP LAMP SWITCH
1) Twist stop light switch counter clockwise (to unlock). Position switch to
achieve proper clearance between tip of switch and buffer, now twist
switch clockwise (to lock).
2) After installing switch, depress the brake pedal several times, make sure
there is no contact between the switch and buffer.
3) Check the clearance
between stop lamp switch
and buffer.

The brake light switch is located
on the R-14 relay valve mounted to
the crossmember near the rear axle.
Inspect the switch and wiring as
needed.
Poor brake pedal spring tension and stop lamp switch adjustments may cause
intermittent complaints especially on rough roads or while turning.
