Fuel Tubes May Crack and Leak Fuel
A high pressure fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.

Summary
Shyft Group (Shyft Group) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Spartan RV Chassis K3 vehicles. The fuel tubes between the fuel rail and the injectors for cylinders four, five, and six may fatigue and crack, which can result in a high pressure fuel leak.
Remedy
On engines with 75 miles or less, dealers will install vibration isolators to the fuel tubes. Engines with more than 75 miles will receive new fuel tubes with vibration isolators. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 22, 2021. Owners may contact Cummins Care at 1-800-CUMMINS (1-800-286-6467) or visit the website at care.cummins.com or owners may contact Shyft Group customer service at 1-800-582-3454. Shyft Group’s number for this recall is 21-23.

Chronology :
On Monday December 6, 2021, Shyft was notified of Cummins recall 21E-099. Within the notification, Cummins supplied an engine serial number list. Between December 6 and December 9, Shyft worked to correlate the engine serial numbers to vehicle identification numbers. Some engine serial numbers did not cross. However, Shyft identified 143 motor home chassis to be affected and on December 10, Shyft determined a safety related defect could exist in the affected motor home chassis. However, Shyft continued to locate approximately 12 engines that did not correlate to a VIN. On December 14 all engines were accounted for.

The Shyft Group, Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2020 through 2023 model year K3 model Spartan RV chassis equipped with an X12 engine supplied by Cummins, Inc. What is the Defect? The fuel tubes between the fuel rail and the injector for cylinders 4, 5 and 6 may be susceptible to cracking, resulting in a high pressure fuel leak. What is the Safety Risk? An operator may smell fuel or observe a mist due to the fuel leak. What is the Remedy?
