If the vehicle is operated above 20 km/h while the Electronic Stability Control system is disabled, there is a greater chance of loss of stability control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary
Daimler Coaches North America (DCNA) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Setra S407 and 2019-2020 Setra S417TC motorcoaches. These vehicles are equipped with a driver-selected Electronic Stability Control (ESC) “OFF” switch for disabling the traction control portion of ESC, allowing it to remain disabled at speeds above 20 km/h. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 136, “Electronic Stability Control.”
Remedy
DCNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the “ESC OFF” switch with a new “TC-Off” button, install an indicator light on the dashboard to indicate when the traction control is deactivated, and perform a software to prevent the ESC system from being disabled, update free of charge. This recall began September 7, 2020. Owners may contact DCNA customer service at 1-800-206-9728. DCNA’s number for this recall is 43.54U20107A.

- Unclip needle-punched nonwoven fabric (4) in the driver’s footwell and set it aside.

Dear Setra Owner,
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the U.S. National Traffic and
Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
EvoBus GmbH (the manufacturer of Setra coaches) has decided that a defect (details below)
which relates to motor vehicle non-compliance exists in certain 2018~2019 Setra S407 and
certain 2019~2020 Setra S417 vehicles. EvoBus therefore has initiated a recall of these vehicles.
Our records indicate that your vehicle is included in this group.
It is possible to switch off the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system at speeds above 20 km/h
(12 MPH) which is in non-compliance with FMVSS 136, Electronic Stability Control for heavy
duty vehicles. With ESC ‘off’ at highway speeds, the overall vehicle stability could be
compromised thereby increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
Setra will remedy this by removing the ESC ‘OFF’ switch, installing a Traction Control (TC)
‘OFF’ switch, performing a software update and adding an indicator light to inform the operator
that the traction control system is disabled.. This repair will be performed free of charge.
Details are outlined in the repair procedure number TI 43.54U20107A. Please allow for up to
three (3) hours to schedule and complete the repair.

Reimbursement will be made by check from your dealer. If your claim is denied you will
receive a letter from Setra within 60 days of receipt with the reason(s) for the denial.
