Without the seatbelt warning reminder, the driver may forget to fasten the seatbelt, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Summary

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Redhawk SE motorhomes. The seatbelt-unfastened warning light will not illuminate for approximately five seconds after the ignition is moved to the “on” or “start” position. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, “Occupant Crash Protection.”

 

Remedy

GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the instrument panel cluster, free of charge. The recall began October 9, 2019. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 or Jayco customer service at 1-800-517-9137.

INSTRUCTIONS

 

A GM/Chevy Service Center will reprogram the instrument panel cluster at no cost to current owner.

 

You can locate the closest dealer through Chevy’s website https://www.chevrolet.com/dealerlocator.

 

Jayco’s sole obligation under our limited warranty is to repair or replace defective materials and/or workmanship deemed our responsibility as determined by Jayco in our sole discretion. Jayco reserves the right to use new and/or remanufactured parts or materials of similar quality to complete any work, and to make parts and/or design changes as appropriate without notice to anyone. Jayco designs and/or materials changes are done without obligation to incorporate such changes in previously manufactured product. Jayco makes every reasonable effort to ensure field remedies will not adversely affect performance and/or safety of the unit. Dear Valued Dealer:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Jayco has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exits in certain Model Year 2019 -2020 Redhawk SE Motorhomes.    

Reason for this recall The seatbelt unfastened telltale will not illuminate for approximately 5 seconds after the ignition is moved to the on or start position.  During the   five-second delay, the telltale will not alert the driver that the seatbelt is unbuckled.
Recall Remedy The Instrument panel cluster (IPC) must be reprogrammed by a GM/Chevy Service Center.

What we need you to do Our records show the following unit is affected by this recall and is currently part of the inventory at your Dealership.  The Recall Remedy must be completed on this unit prior to customer delivery.

GM Diagnostic/Programming (TIS2Web)

 

Approved J2534 Device with TIS2WEB can reprogram 1996 and later All GM Modules.

To obtain the latest electronic controller calibration information for your vehicle, go to https://tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web and enter the vehicle's 17 character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and select 'Get CAL ID’.

You can then compare the latest part number with the actual number installed on the vehicle to determine if a reprogram is needed.

The Service Programming System (SPS) application is part of the TIS2Web system. To program an ECU, the SPS application must communicate with the vehicle control modules using the proper J2534 programming interface tool.

The Tech 2 supports model years 1996 and beyond. With the addition of the CAN Diagnostic Interface (CANdi) module, Tech 2 is fully backward compatible with current Tech 2 functionality and operates transparently when diagnosing non-CAN-equipped vehicles.

Servicing the next generation Global A vehicles will require the diagnostic software, GDS2, Global Diagnostic System 2 running on a local PC device while the MDI is connected to the vehicle. The GM MDI is the Global Diagnostic tool for future vehicles starting with Global A vehicles.
