Leveling System Hoses may Leak and Cause Fire

The leaking hydraulic fluid leak may spray onto the exhaust system, increasing the risk of a fire.

 

Summary

Entegra Coach (Entegra) is recalling certain 2018 Entegra Odyssey vehicles. The leveling system hydraulic hoses may become damaged due to their location, resulting in a hydraulic fluid leak.

 

Remedy

Entegra has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the location of hoses and replace any damaged hoses, free of charge. The recall began on September 13, 2018. Owners may contact Entegra customer service at 1-800-517-9137. Entegra’s number for this recall is 9903407.

INSPECTION

BEFORE BEGINNING – TURN OFF ENGINE & ALLOW THE ENGINE TO COOL COMPLETELY.

Step 1- Locate the hydraulic hose for the leveling system secured to the underbody, routed along the passengerside frame rail. If there was excess hose during the build process, it will be bundled at a point approximately 3-5 feet forward of the pump box as shown in (Fig 1).  After locating the hydraulic hosing, inspect the area where the hose coil is located and/or secured to the frame. If the hydraulic hose is positioned without slack along the frame rail with coil located at reservoir tank (Fig 2 and Fig 3), the hose coil is positioned correctly and no repair is necessary. If the hydraulic hose coil is confirmed to be incorrectly positioned on the frame side rail ( Fig 1), proceed to inspection Step #2.

Step 2- If the hydraulic hose coil has fallen or is lacking the factory installed zip ties, carefully examine the hoses (3) for any signs of wear or damage. If signs of hose damage are visible, a replacement hose is necessary before proceeding to the repair instructions. If hose is damaged, contact Customer Service for pre-authorization of hose replacement.  If no signs of hose damage are visible, proceed to the repair instructions.

 

REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS

BEFORE STARTING REPAIR- TURN OFF ENGINE & ALLOW THE ENGINE TO COOL COMPLETELY.

Step 1– If the hydraulic hose coil is confirmed to be incorrectly positioned on the frame side rail ( Fig 1), cut the zip tie and correctly re-route the hose coil (Fig 3) to the hydraulic oil reservoir pump tank ( Fig 2).   Straighten and secure the hose along frame rail at approx. every 36” section of hose, or as needed, to prevent any slack in hose line ( Fig 4.).

Dear Valued Customer:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Jayco has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety exits in certain 2018 Model Year, Atlante 31P (AP), 29S (AS) and 31V (AV) Class A motorhomes and Entegra Odyssey 29V ( AV)  Class C motorhomes.

Reason for this recall There is excess hydraulic hoses for the leveling system coiled and tied to the chassis frame in a manner that may lead to damage to the hoses (i.e. kinks, restrictions, scuffs, melted etc.). A damaged hose may allow localized failure, leading to loss of hydraulic fluid that may contact the exhaust system, which in turn could ignite and cause a fire resulting in personal injury and/or property damage.
Recall Remedy An authorized Jayco Dealer will inspect the hydraulic hoses for any sign of damage and replacement as required and/or relocate and tie up the excess hydraulic hoses to the reservoir pump tank to prevent damage.  The Recall Remedy is free of charge and will take approximately 1 hour to complete.
What we need you to do Please contact an authorized Jayco Dealer as soon as possible to set an appointment for the Recall Remedy.

 

If you had this repair completed prior to receipt of this recall notice, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy of the problem associated with this recall.

If you take your recreational vehicle to your dealer on the agreed service date and the dealer does not remedy this condition on that date or within three (3) days, please contact Customer Service Department at 800-517-9137.  If after contacting your dealer and Customer Service you are not able to have the safety defect remedied without charge and/or within a reasonable time, you may wish to submit a written complaint to the Administrator, national Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE., Washington, DC 20590; or call the toll-free Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800424-9153): or go to https://www.safercar.gov.  Federal regulations require that any vehicle lessor receiving this recall notice must forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within ten days.
