Trailer may Separate from Fifth Wheel
If the trailer separates from the tractor, it can increase the risk of a crash.
Summary
Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain 2019 Mack Anthem trucks equipped with Jost fifth wheel couplings. The fifth wheel may have an outboard slider bracket that is too narrow, possibly allowing the trailer to separate from the tractor.
Remedy
Mack will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the fifth wheel slider bracket, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin September 14, 2018. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack’s number for this recall is SC0411.

Subject: Safety Recall, SC0411, Jost Fifth Wheel
Summary:
Jost International (Jost) may have sent a fifth wheel (1 in total) with a prototype component to Mack Truck’s manufacturing facility. Specifically, the slide bracket width is too narrow. The potential consequence is that the fifth wheel may fail and cause the trailer to separate from the tractor.
Models/ Model Years Affected:
Certain 2018 Anthem model vehicles manufactured from June 9, 2018 to June 29, 2018 with a Jost brand fifth wheel
Vehicle Quantities:
9 vehicles (all U.S.)
Dealer’s Responsibility:
The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act requires dealers to ensure that all new and used vehicles are free of safety defects and comply with all relevant safety standards at the time of delivery to the consumer.
Dealers should make their personnel aware of the safety recall. In the event that a dealer has a vehicle included in the safety recall in their inventory to be sold, the condition must be corrected before releasing it to a customer.
