*** IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL ***

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.  Cummins Inc. has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Fleetguard UFF-XT fuel filters, part number FF63009, within the date code range of 14115 and 14180.  As a precaution, these products are being recalled.  Our records indicate that some of the recalled products were shipped to your company.

WHY IS A RECALL BEING CONDUCTED?

The bond that attaches the filter shell to the filter nut plate may fail.  If this occurs, the shell may separate from the fuel filter nut plate, causing the engine to stall without warning and without the ability to restart the engine until the fuel filter is replaced.  This condition may lead to an increased risk of a crash in on-highway applications.  Out of an abundance of caution Cummins is also recalling filters installed in off-highway applications.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

  1. Recalled Products in Inventory. Check the date code on any FF63009 filters in your inventory that you purchased between April 25, 2014 and July 15, 2014.  The date code is the first 5 digits in the string of 13 digits located on the side of the filter near the nut plate rim, as shown in the photo below.

  • Ensure your return address with contact information is clearly attached to your shipment.

Upon receipt of the filters, a credit will be issued to your account.

NOTE:  It is a violation of Federal law to sell the recalled filters.

  1. Recalled product in the hands of your customers and owners. It is critical that downstream resellers and end users be advised of this recall.  Accordingly, please take the following action:
